Communities: Bro-Sesh
In the first edition of the Adventure Seekers “Communities” series, we linked up with a group of local snowboarders that above all else hold community involvement and growing the culture of snowboarding their main objective. They seek to educate those around them, share experiences between friends and have as much fun as possible doing it. This group of riders is the beacon that shines on the fundamental attributes the sport was built on; friendship, laughs, good times and good vibes.
We introduce them to you as Bro-Sesh.
There are times that living in the suburban sprawl of southern Ontario doesn’t lend itself too well to enjoying the great outdoors. It can be especially difficult to find some outdoor adventures in the cold winter months, at least not without a little extra effort. Lucky for some of us on the edge of suburbia there is easy access to a few kick-ass conservation areas.
These parks help maintain thriving ecosystems and keep plenty of that awesome stuff known as nature close at hand. When the weight of the concrete jungle gets too heavy, there is freedom and fresh air waiting to greet you at these little oases. Kelso is one of those fine parks located right in our own backyard and nestled inside is Glen Eden; one of a handful of Snowboard hills in southern Ontario.
As difficult as it can be to find something awesome to do outside in the freezing cold, it can be equally challenging to find someone awesome enough to hang out with when the winter wind is blowing. So what is a lone, snow-loving individual to do with themselves? Well, a small but growing movement of riders have been gathering at Glen Eden. They have evolved along with the Terrain Park over the past 7 years at a weekly hootenanny known as “BRO-SESH”.
Every Wednesday night a group of slashers from the local and sometimes not so local area gather for a session of un-adulterated, no-good, down and dirty fun. Mr. Mustache himself, Will Johnson, is the soul responsible for orchestrating this “Brodeo on Snow” and it can get crazier than a bucking bronco. Plainly put, these sessions are for Snowboarders who want to BRO-down with like minded members of the community. There are sponsors from within the industry who come out to support the cause every week.
The BROs (& gals) win gear for everything from the best bail to the gnarliest hammer to having the most BRO-taculer attitude. Everyone who comes out is simply there to spread the stoke. The sponsors mix and mingle with the riders. The riders vibe off of each other and by the end of each night there is sure to have been a few bangers thrown down.
Whether that means a mini-BRO went end to end on his first rail or a veteran BRO nails a “cab 450 lipslide” the results are the same: A BRO gets hyped, the crowd is jazzed and everyone is feeling the good vibrations! BRO-SESH is a non-competitive, fun-based environment for riders of all age, sex and skill set to come be a part of the local snowboarding scene.
You can check out what went down at the previous sessions by following Mustache Media on Vimeo. Mr. Mustache (or as he has lovingly been called #BROSESHguy ) records all of the hotness, chops & screws the content and produces a brand spankin’ new video every week! You can also find images from the night at fumiophoto.com/BRO-SESH, on our
Facebook page and right here on Adventure Seekers.
If you want to ride with us this season all you have to do is come out and play! We are all about building a community and promoting the love of snowboarding. “BRO-SESH” itself is free but we host the sessions on the cascading slopes of Glen Eden. You will have to get yourself a lift ticket and a park pass but then you’ll be good to go.
Ride hard. Drink Water. Have fun. See you out there!
